PM Surya Ghar Application Rejected? 8 Reasons & Fixes

Short answer: most PM Surya Ghar applications are rejected or stuck for simple, fixable reasons: the name on the EB bill does not match Aadhaar or the bank account, the sanctioned load is lower than the system size, there are pending EB dues, the connection is not domestic, or the system was installed by an unregistered vendor or with non-DCR panels. Find the reason on the portal, fix it, and re-apply quickly, because the Tamil Nadu top-up is limited.

Based on the scheme rules and the cases we see in Cuddalore district, as of October 2026. The exact remark on your application is the best guide.

The 8 Most Common Rejection Reasons

# Reason Stage where it appears Fix Time to fix
1 Name mismatch (EB bill vs Aadhaar vs bank) Registration / subsidy Name transfer or correction, matching bank account 1 - 4 weeks
2 Sanctioned load lower than system size TNEB feasibility Apply for load increase 1 - 3 weeks
3 Pending EB dues TNEB feasibility Clear dues, get receipt 1 - 3 days
4 Non-domestic connection Registration Apply on a domestic connection only -
5 Already received a rooftop subsidy Registration Only extra capacity may qualify; ask us -
6 Non-DCR or non-listed panels Inspection / subsidy Replace with DCR panels (costly) weeks
7 Unregistered vendor Inspection / subsidy Cannot be fixed later; use a registered vendor -
8 Wrong or missing documents and photos Any stage Re-upload clear documents 1 - 3 days

1. Name Mismatch (The Number One Problem)

The applicant's name must match on the EB connection, Aadhaar and bank account. Common cases in Tamil Nadu:

  • The meter is still in a late parent's name.
  • The bill says "K. Murugan" but Aadhaar says "Murugan Kannan".
  • The bank account is a joint account in the spouse's name.

Fix: start the EB name transfer at your TNEB section office (needs ownership proof and, for inheritance, legal heir documents), or apply in the name of the person on the bill if they own the house. Make sure the bank account is in the same name.

2. Sanctioned Load Lower Than System Size

If your sanctioned load is 2 kW and you apply for a 3 kW system, TNEB may reject feasibility or ask for a load increase. Check the load printed on your EB card or bill.

Fix: apply for load enhancement (small fee and deposit), then re-apply or resubmit. Larger systems may also need single phase to 3-phase upgrade.

3. Pending EB Dues

Any unpaid amount on the connection can block feasibility. Fix: pay, keep the receipt, and resubmit.

4. Non-Domestic Connection

PM Surya Ghar is for residential (domestic) connections. Shops, offices and agricultural connections are rejected. Apartments can apply through the RWA for common areas: see solar for apartments: RWA subsidy guide. Businesses have other benefits: solar for shops and small businesses.

5. Already Received a Subsidy

The subsidy is given once per connection for rooftop solar. If an older system on your house got a subsidy, a new application may be rejected or limited to the remaining capacity. Bring your old documents so we can check.

6 and 7. Wrong Panels or Unregistered Installer

These are the most painful because they appear after you have paid:

  • Panels must be DCR (Indian-made cells) and on the approved list. Non-DCR panels lose the entire subsidy.
  • The installer must be a registered vendor on the portal.

Prevention: get the panel model, DCR certificate and vendor registration in writing before paying any advance. See how to compare solar quotations and 7 solar scam warnings.

8. Documents and Photos

Blurry Aadhaar scans, a cropped EB bill, or site photos that do not show the full system can cause a query or rejection. Fix: re-upload clear, complete copies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why was my PM Surya Ghar application rejected?

The most common reasons are a name mismatch between the EB bill and Aadhaar or bank account, sanctioned load lower than the system size, pending EB dues, a non-residential connection, or installation by an unregistered vendor or with non-DCR panels.

Can I apply again after rejection?

Yes, in most cases. Fix the reason (for example, complete the EB name transfer or increase sanctioned load) and re-apply or ask the installer to resubmit the corrected stage. Keep copies of every document.

Where can I see the rejection reason?

Log in to the PM Surya Ghar portal and open your application details; the status and remarks are shown there. If no reason is shown, contact your TNEB section office or the portal grievance option.

Will I lose the ₹22,000 Tamil Nadu top-up if I re-apply?

The top-up is for applications registered on or after 5 August 2026 and is reported to be limited to the first 1 lakh eligible homes. Re-applying quickly protects your place; we check your status before you re-apply.

My subsidy is not credited after installation. What should I do?

Check that the commissioning report and bank details are uploaded and that the bank account is in the applicant's name. If it is more than 30-45 days after commissioning, raise a grievance on the portal.
