Common Questions

How is the EB bill calculated in Tamil Nadu?

TNEB (TNPDCL) bills domestic homes every two months using telescopic slabs. If you use 500 units or less in two months, the first 200 units are free; above 500 units only the first 100 units are free and higher slab rates apply. A fixed charge is added.

What is the EB unit rate in Tamil Nadu in 2026?

For homes under 500 units: 0-200 free, 201-400 about ₹4.50 and 401-500 about ₹6 per unit. Above 500 units: 0-100 free, 101-400 about ₹4.50, 401-500 ₹6, 501-600 ₹8, 601-800 ₹9, 801-1,000 ₹10 and above 1,000 ₹11 per unit (approximate; check your bill).

Why does my bill jump after 500 units?

Crossing 500 units in a two-month cycle removes the extra 100 free units and moves your top units into the ₹8-11 slabs, so a small increase in use can raise the bill sharply.

Is this calculator accurate for my bill?

It gives a close estimate using the published domestic slab structure. Your actual bill may differ slightly because of the exact fixed charge, adjustments or tariff updates, so always compare with your TNPDCL bill.

How much solar do I need to bring my bill down?

Roughly, a 1kW system makes about 250 units every two months in Tamil Nadu. Divide your two-month units by 250 to get the kW you need; most homes with one AC need 3kW and homes with two ACs need about 5kW.
